Who it’s for

For dogs that need more than a weekly lesson.

Some dogs know commands but don’t reliably follow them when it matters.

They pull on leash. They ignore recall when something more interesting appears. They won’t stay on place when guests walk in. They jump, bolt through doors, blow off commands outdoors, or simply need clearer expectations.

Our obedience board-and-train gives us eight weeks to build consistency through daily repetition.

This program works for:

  • Family dogs
  • Hunting dogs that need a stronger obedience foundation
  • Young adult dogs
  • Dogs that know basic commands but aren’t reliable
  • Owners who want dependable off-leash control
  • Families who need clearer household manners

The program

Eight weeks of practical obedience.

Every dog is different, but the obedience program is built around a consistent set of practical commands and expectations.

Training may include:

The goal isn’t a dog that only listens to the trainer. The goal is to establish a clear system that the owner can continue using after pickup.

Why eight weeks?

Repetition is what makes obedience stick.

A weekly lesson can teach an owner what to practice. Board-and-train gives the trainer time to actually build those repetitions into the dog’s daily routine.

Over eight weeks, commands become part of normal life: getting in and out of the kennel, walking on leash, waiting on place, responding around distractions, and learning that commands still matter when the environment gets interesting.

That doesn’t mean the owner is finished when the dog goes home. Good obedience still requires consistency. That’s why the pickup lesson and after-care matter.

Pricing

$1,250 per month. Two-month program.

The obedience-only program is eight weeks / two months.

Training is $1,250 per month and boarding during the stay is included.

Food is additional at $75 per month for Purina Pro Plan Sport, or owners may provide their own food.

A $100 deposit reserves a training spot and applies toward the first month.

Not just bird dogs

The same obedience foundation works at home and in the field.

Utah Bird Dog Training is known for retrievers and pointing dogs, so obedience has always been a major part of what we do. We’ve been training dogs for nearly two decades.

But your dog does not need to hunt.

We use the same emphasis on clear commands, consistency, impulse control, and reliable handling for companion dogs.

For hunting dogs, this obedience foundation can also become the starting point for more advanced retriever or pointing-dog work.

Going home

Training the owner matters too.

At pickup, plan to spend 1–2 hours with us.

We’ll work the dog with you, teach you the commands and handling system, explain the equipment, and show you what needs to stay consistent at home.

You’ll receive a command list and a video of your dog.

After-care is available for the life of the dog because the goal isn’t simply to hand you a trained dog — it’s to help you keep the training working. More on that is on After Training.
